Our 3rd Reader's Notebook is up and students can begin working on it anytime. They have until Dec. 3 to complete it. They will be given time in class to complete it but are welcome to work on it at home if they want to get it done before the due date.

We have started working on a year long activity. It is called Reader's Notebook. Every 2 weeks, I am asking that students write me a letter about the book they are reading. They are also to contribute to our "Book Buzz" where they will write a few sentences about their book for their peers to see. The students seem very excited about it. They are given time in class to work on this but are welcome to work on it at home as well.
Students have started writing their final recount on any topic they choose. Our next writing unit is descriptive writing. Students have been working hard on their Pourquoi Tales. I will be sending these home after Education Week. They will also be available to see during the Open House.
The students will be starting their lap book reports starting on Monday. Most have finished reading their books but if they haven't please help them find some time to do it this weekend.
Here is a link to many questions for your child to answer after their nightly reading. These questions can help them think critically about what they have read.
Students have been excitedly working on a Google Slides presentation describing their perfect day. I allowed students to decide if they wanted to complete the project on their own or with partners. They will present their projects to the class when finished. Most work is to be completed at home but if students have not finished it by Friday, I ask that they try to spend some time at home finishing it. Looking forward to hearing all about their perfect day!
We will soon be starting our Descriptive writing unit. As a lead up to this, we have begun looking at adjectives. The students completed a fun mystery bag activity this week. Ask you child what adjectives they used to describe their object and see if you can guess what their object was.
We have begun learning the reading strategy of inferring. Inferring is using the text and your background knowledge to read between the lines and understand what the author isn't saying.
We started the unit by watching some wordless Pixar shorts, For the Birds and Geri's Game. I've asked the students to bring in a picture of their favourite summer memory. We will be using these photos for a recount writing activity. They do not have to be in colour, just printed out in some way. If you are unable to print them, you are welcome to send them to me via email ([email protected]) and I will print them here at school. Looking forward to hearing about their adventures.
I hope to have all the pictures by tomorrow as I assigned this last week but due to some internet issues wasn't able to get the website updated. |
